EXPLORING THE LOCAL AREA
Moena lies in a splendid flood basin surrounded by some of the most picturesque Dolomite groups, including the Latemar, Valaccia and the green offshoots of the Costalunga pass.
It is known as the “Fairy of the Dolomites” due to its great allure.
The streets of the town are lined with handsome buildings and attractive shops that appeal to even the most refined and exacting of tastes. In recent years, Moena has also demonstrated a true affinity for Ladin culinary tradition and hosts excellent gastronomic events such as “A cena con Re Laurino” (Dinner with King Laurino) in winter and “Sapori d’Autunno” (Flavours of Autumn) in September.
In Moena there is the Alpine Police Training Centre of the State Police, who offer an important mountain safety and rescue service in summer and winter. The town is an ideal holiday destination for all the family and for children and adults who enjoy sports and nature or prefer relaxation, wellness and tranquillity.
You can visit some ancient villages, the Ladin museum and the war museum, and the churches and chapels scattered around. The mountain huts, instead, are where you should go to taste typical products of the valley.
The San Pellegrino pass is an excellent winter sports resort, since it forms part of the Trevalli ski area (Falcade-San Pellegrino, Moena-Lusia) which also includes the Valles pass (2031 m asl), as well as the Dolomitistars (Ski Civetta, Falcade, Arabba, Marmolada) and the more extensive area of Dolomiti Superski.
